Living by the coast means that when the clouds start rolling in, I am only a quick drive away from the action.

The Visitors
Each morning and afternoon a family of magpies visit my parents' house. They're so gentle and sing such a beautiful song.

Marmion in the morning
As the mornings get a little cooler, setting the alarm for before sunrise gets harder and harder. Luckily the morning light makes it all worth it. Living on the west coast means that the sun rises over the land so the limestone cliffs along the coast make for some great shadows.
Take care.

In the city
Five years ago I asked for a DSLR camera for a rather significant birthday. I'd studied photography in high school all those years ago but had never really graduated past 'point and shoot'.
The substantial weight of the D90 and the sound of that shutter got me quite excited about what this piece of equipment could do. I must say that all of the options in Menu did make me a little confused but armed with my D90 For Dummies I started very slowly trying to grasp the information about shutter speed, aperture and ISO and how I needed to manipulate these to create a picture.
The camera has spent much of the last few years in the back of a drawer and taken out for a couple of point and shoot photos with me totally reliant on Auto. After some late night internet browsing, I enrolled myself in an introductory course through Shoot Photography.
The course was broken up into three sessions of two hours with the middle session being a walking tour around the city. The main rule of the tour was that everything had to be shot in manual. Initially daunting, this rule made the evening incredibly worthwhile.
